Florida Archery Season: A Comprehensive Checklist

Florida archery season is a thrilling time for bowhunters. The state boasts a diverse population of game, from white-tailed deer to wild hogs, making it a prime destination for archers and an Early RUT that can make for some exhilarating hunts.  However, before you head out into the woods, it's essential to be prepared. This checklist will ensure you have everything you need for a successful and safe archery season in Florida.

Clothing and Accessories

• Hunting License: Obtain a valid hunting license and archery stamp from the FWC.
• Know Your Target: Be absolutely certain of your target before releasing an arrow. Never shoot at anything you haven't positively identified.
• Safety Practices: Follow all safety guidelines when handling firearms and archery equipment. Always point your bow in a safe direction and keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

Additional Tips

• Target Practice: Shoot your bow regularly leading up to and during season to be sure you are dialed in and are able to make an ethical and accurate shot when the pressure is on!
• Scout Your Hunting Area: Before the season starts, scout potential hunting spots to identify areas with good cover, water sources, and signs of game activity.
• Set Up Your Stand: Choose a suitable stand location that offers good visibility and concealment. Secure your stand properly to ensure safety. Or if using a climber, be sure it's been well kept, and all the straps are in proper condition for climbing. 
• Wind Awareness: Be mindful of the wind direction. A wind indicator and sent blocker are two important tools to keep you from blowing your cover!
• Pack a Hunting Backpack: Carry essentials like water, snacks, first aid supplies, and a knife in a hunting backpack.
• Be Prepared for Florida Weather: Florida weather can be unpredictable. Bring an extra FL Camo shirt along in your hunting bag in case of a sudden rainstorm, or to change into if you become drenched in sweat!
